Victorian teachers won a well deserved pay rise. But before they even get their first payment they are being accused of causing inflation. Teachers in Victoria were being paid around $10,000 a year less than their Act, WA and NSW colleagues so their pay rise of up to 15.2 per cent was not unexpected and certainly absolutely needed to keep teachers in their classrooms. But today their pay rise has been touted as a "risk to inflation".
